Report: Improper anchoring caused boat accident
Recently a boat with four people capsized in the ocean, and three of the people died. In the investigation it was learned that the boat was anchored improperly. Then the boat capsized after one of the boaters tied to the pry the anchor loose by throttling the boat. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s also suggested that the operators of the boat were careless and inexperienced, along with the fact that there was a storm moving in on them. All of these factors lead to the boat capsizing. The problem began when they moved the anchor to the back of the boat or the stern. This created instability in the boat. It has been recommended that if in the same situation to cut the anchor line, and that boaters should take a safety course.
It must have been horrible to be Nick Schuyler. He gave a report of what really happened. When the boat capsized, all four men tried to tip the boat back over by all standing on one side. When that did not work, Bleakley swam under and retrieved three life vests, and a cushion-type flotation device. Bleakley used the cushion, while the other three used the vests. They tried using flares, but they were wet. Then cell phones, but no signal. Then Cooper became unresponsive, and they tried to revive him but couldn’t. Then Bleakley took his life vest. Then Smith had symptoms of hypothermia and he took off his floatation device and floated away. Then Schuyler and his best friend, Bleakley, were all that remained. They held on just the two of them for 24 hours, and then Bleakley grew weak and took off his vest. Then Schuylar realized while holding on to his friend that he had died and let him go.
