This article talks about how many people get together about this tie every year right around st. patricks day and get their heads shaved. This act is kind of like a walk-a-thon, only instead of getting money for every mile you walk you are given money for the hair that you shave off of your head. This benefit is run by a non profit organization and it has raised 51 million dollars worldwide to help aid in all the childhood cancer problems there are out there. This started about nine years ago, and this money is used for research to help try and find treatment and cures for these different kinds of cancer that children go through. This year alone 11,000 people so far have signed up to get their heads shaved. I think this is an awesome charity, because every last penny that is raised is going toward this cause. Charitites like this raise awareness and can help people to be a little bt more hopeful about their children being diagnosed with some kind of cancer. Dr. Craig Castellino even got his head shaved for the cause, he has been doing research for about four years now, and has found out that about 80% of the children that are diagnosed with having cancer can be cured. This research is helping him to understand exactly why children get tumors in their brains. Hopefully this research keeps going well and this doctor and many others make more strives in the future.

During my senior year in high school our Relay for Life team got together with Locks for Love. I thought that this was a wonderful idea because both organizations were benefiting from it. Students with long hair and big hearts would ask for donations for getting their hair cut. Then everyone that was cutting their hair got on the stage at our school and got their hair cut at the same time. Then the money went to the Relay for Life team and the hair went to the Locks for Love organization for cancer patients who can’t grow their hair back. Even though some of the ideas to raise money is a little out of the ordinary it’s all for a good cause and I think that it’s a good idea.
