In Smith’s memory, no Lion will wear 93 this fall

The Detroit Lions are honoring their lost player. The lost player that I am referring to is Corey Smith. Smith was one of the three boaters that were lost at sea. His body along with the other two boaters has not been found. The player development director for the Detroit Lions told mourners of Smith that the Lions were going to retire 93. Number 93 was the number of Corey Smith when he played for the Detroit Lions. Smith was highly regarded for his hard work, and his ability to play through pain. Smith entered the league undrafted. Many people never thought he would make in the National Football League because he was too small to be a defensive end. He proved all of those people wrong too. Even though he was a back up, he won a Super Bowl. How many people can say they won a Super Bowl. Not many. Not to mention he was backing up two of the best defensive ends in the league, Warren Sapp and Simeon Rice. I think the Lions are sending the right message. The Lions recognize that something terrible happened to an extraordinary person. Smith was widely liked by the Lions organization, and he did what the Lions wanted him to do without complaint. The Lions are honoring him the best way they can. Every time a person enters Ford Field they will see number 93 somewhere in the stadium and they will remember this extraordinary person. There is no better way to be remembered.
