According to 911 tapes police knew about the type of living conditions that Katherine Mukdski was enduring as reported by her mailman. Apparently, this has been ongoing since 2006 when the first reports were made of possible elder abuse. Police did make a stop to her residence and observed the filth she was living in and the fact that she was laying on the couch and couldn't move, and felt no abuse or neglect was suspected. Her son, who was reported as her caregiver, is thought to have the mentality of an 11 year old child. This is definitely the case where the police dropped the ball. Two years later, she is filled with sores with sepsis setting in, malnurished and no one still doesn't come to check on her until her son makes a call for an ambulance stating that his mother passed away as he washes her up on their front porch. It is reported that Ms. Mukdski was diagnosed with breast cancer and that may have been her cause of death, but that does not condone the fact that she had to live the way she did. All the police had to do was make a report and have Social Services follow-up to make sure Ms. Mukdski was being taken care of. They just didn't take the time or cared to follow-up. Social Services is known for being overworked and understaffed, but that does not justify no one caring enough to make the call or stopping by when numerous calls were made by her mailman of what he saw. No one should ever have to live like this and Ms. Mukdski should have been able to die with dignity and not surrounded by trash, filth and weighing 68 pounds. It's sad when people take animal cruelty more serious with living conditions of people's pets then they did for her.

That was a very sad story about that lady, if the mail-carrier called people and told them how she was lively why any one go check did and see how she was doing. I also have a question why was she living in a care of a person that has the mind of an eleven year old. So it was like a child taking care of a child. I think that was where they went wrong. Also where is her other family members? There are many questions that need to be answer and question. I really hope the family thinks twice when it comes to another family member.

Police not helping elderly women
To hear about police doing nothing to stop caretakers from having these elderly women live is wilth is horrible. Nobody deserves this type of abuse to happen to them, especially when they can not take care of themselves. Most of these people need extra care, and need care from people that can handle the things that they need to do for them. These people need to be understanding and be very good at what they do. If you have someone that doesn't care what happens to these people then the will treat them like crap. You also need to have police officers that care enough to watch out for these people if they seem to be being neglected.
