Boy Charged in Pregnant Women's Death

In the rural western community of Wampum, Pennsylvania a fifth grader Jordan Brown is charged in a pregnant woman’s death. Before leaving his home on Friday February 20th, 2009 authorities say, the eleven year old boy had shot his father’s pregnant fiancée in the back of the head as she lay in bed. After shooting his soon to be step mother he managed to put his youth model 20-gauge shotgun back into his room before going to catch the bus to go to school. The young boy is being charged as an adult of the twenty six year old Kenzie Marie Houk who was eight months pregnant. The baby also died within a few minutes due to lack of oxygen. It was stated that, “There was an issue with jealousy.” The twenty six year old ladies four year old daughter reported to the tree cutters on the property that she thought her mother was dead. When the cops interviewed Jordan he sent them on a five hour false lead. It wasn’t until they re-interviewed Houk’s seven year old daughter who indicated that it was Jordan. Jordan’s father is said to be a mess and had no indication that his son had any problem with his fiancée. This is a tragic story and I think that it’s not right that a boy had a 20 gauge gun that he had access to all the time. The article stated “The shotgun used is designed for children and has a shorter arm and such weapons don’t have to be registered. Kenzie’s father Jack, 57, said the boy and his father used to practice shooting behind their farmhouse, and the two enjoyed going hunting together.” Living in Michigan a lot of father’s teach their children to shoot a gun for hunting. I think this goes to show that if your child has something bigger than a BB-gun or pellet gun that the gun shouldn’t be in reach of the child so they can always be supervised with the gun.
